Beautiful chisel, part of a display cabinet possibly used by the maker to show off his craft to potential customers. I couldn’t find any info on this blacksmith, but the quality of finish and forging is excellent. I have not encountered any other chisels from this blacksmith apart from the display cabinet and I haven’t seen any photos either. I assume a very rare item. The kihada finish is some of the best I’ve ever seen. It’s hand chiselled and then smoothed on the soft steel (jigane) all the way up to the ferrule. It’s a skill used to give a texture which resembles wood grain. Absolutely stunning!
